About Dr. Hauge
Dr. Hauge has been in continuous full-time practice of adult neurosurgery in Knoxville, Tennessee since 1990. He is currently in active neurosurgical practice with Neurosurgical Associates in Knoxville.
Dr. Hauge was born and raised in Fairmont, West Virginia. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from The College of Wooster, Wooster Ohio in 1977. and subsequently received a Master of Science (Research) from the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, St. Louis Missouri in 1982. He received his M.D. degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine in Morgantown, West Virginia in 1984, and completed a 6 year general surgery internship and neurosurgical residency at Hospitals and Clinics of the Medical College of Georgia, Georgia Regents University in Augusta, Georgia from 1984-1990.
Dr. Hauge was certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgery in 1994 and actively participates in their Maintenance of Certification process. He has an unrestricted medical license in Tennessee. He has previously published a number of neuroanatomical/ neurophysiological papers in peer reviewed journals.
Dr. Hauge’s 30 year neurosurgical practice has focused on general adult neurosurgery including cranial, spine, and peripheral nerve disorders. A large part of his practice has been devoted to Gamma knife radiosurgery/ Neuro-oncology since 2005. He has an extensive experience in Worker’s Compensation and evaluation of patient’s involved in motor vehicle accidents and other traumas. He has extensive experience in independent medical evaluations, medical record review of insurance cases, and has served as an expert witness in these cases as well as medical malpractice cases.
Dr. Hauge has served in multiple administrative and clinical positions in the hospital, private practice, and community setting over the last 30 years.

- Plasticity of the somatosensory and motor cortex neonatal and adult raccoon raccoons following digit amputation.
- Electrophysiological mapping (intra-cortical microvascular stimulation and electromyography of selected forelimb muscles) to assess the reorganization of these cortical significant connections following amputation of one or more digits of the forelimbs of the raccoon.
- Autoradiography and horseradish peroxidase tracing of dorsal column nuclei projections to the thalamus.
